The 36-Hour Day by Nancy Mace and Peter Rabins is a detailed self-help guide for people caring for loved ones with Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and other memory impairments. The burdens on caregivers are immense. They first must have a physician adequately assess their loved one's condition and help the family come up with a plan for comprehensive and appropriate care. Often, these plans must be implemented in the face of disruptive or illogical behaviors due to memory loss and the emotional toll that accompanies it. Adjusting to this new way of life can be overwhelming for many caregivers, so The 36-Hour Day offers clear strategies for addressing the physical and emotional needs of both dementia patients and those responsible for their care.

Please note This is key takeaways and analysis of the book and not the original book.

Summary of The 36Hour Day by Nancy L Mace and Peter V Rabins Includes Analysis (Audible Audio Edition) Instaread Susan Murphy Books Reviews

This was the short version, but was very informative.
This is an overview of the actual book “The 36-Hour Day.“ Kind of like an abbreviated ‘Cliff's Notes’ for the FULL book. It provides a potential reader enough information regarding the book’s content to determine if we want to invest the extra money and time to actually buy and read the entire book.
This helpful and timely book presents its readers with important knowledge, advice and information to assist those family members and caregivers who deal with individuals with 'memory disease and loss.' At .99 cents, this summary is a good value, which is one of the reasons I have personally found “Instaread” to be a useful service.
My review rating for this Instareaspd is based upon the quality of the summary provided in the paperback book. I found this to be well written, informatively detailed and a qui and easy read. This has a short three page summary overview which allows readers a chance to take a look T the baseline of the books theme; Alzheimer's, dementia and other memory impairment issues. There are 10 key takeaways listed and explained to provide readers the most accurate depiction of the book's main focus. The Instaread was not lacking in any area and I found this to be worth the time and sellers price on . Overall, 5 stars.
This covers Alzheimer's and dementia for the primary caregiver. Not so much what it is and how it plays out, but how to deal with it and effectively make things as easy as possible for everyone, especially the afflicted person, in a day to day situation.

Topics include
1- This is brought on by damage to the brain. The person can't control it.
2- Patients can have catastrophic reactions to a variety of stimulus, and when that happens, they are unable to reason properly.
3- Patients have difficulty understanding and being understood.
4- It is important to watch for and treat other medical conditions. They may not be able to articulate them.
5- Simplify the person's routine and daily life. Make things as easy and predictable as possible.
6- While short-term memory is compromised, long-term memory is likely sharp.
7- Finding enjoyable activities can delay onset. Hobbies, for example, can be very helpful, as can having a pet.
8- Some patients are diurnal, having more problems as it gets later. It's good to know what time of day things are best, and when problems commonly occur, and schedule around that.
9- Non-verbal communication, such as hand holding, is very important.
10- Caregivers have to take care of themselves as well.

This particular book is a great service. Those people dealing with this kind of situation don't have time to do everything that needs doing in a day, never mind read a long book, and they need the information on how best to care for their loved one's right away. Yes, read the whole when and if you can, but if you have to have the information at hand in a moment, this is a fabulous guide with a lot of good advice and useful tips.

I received an advanced readers copy of this book.
